Just northwest of the southernmost part of Africa, in the country of South Africa, is the City of Durban. The largest city and third most populous in South Africa, Durban boasts a stunning metropolitan area with architecture both ancient and modern. A short distance from beautiful beaches, Durban is a popular travel spot for visitors from around the world.
As a municipality in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, the City of Durban dates back to the year 1824, when the British established a settlement on the northern shore of the Bay of Natal. Prior to this time, Durban was primarily made up of communities of hunter-gathers who lived throughout the area.
