Fall in love with your home again: how to give your home a quick facelift

Category Home Renovations

Whether you want to fix up your home to put it on the market or you just want to update your living space, here's some quick and easy ways you can update your house's look without breaking out the paint brush.

Start on the Street:

Go outside and stand across the road from your home. What's your first impression? Is the grass cut? Are the walls or fences in good condition? When last did you check that your house number is clearly visible? Cut back any bushes or trees that obscure the number. Besides the aesthetic reasons, in an emergency, it's essential that first responders can quickly identify your house. If the numbers are made of metal, give them a polish. Give your boundary wall the once over with a pressure cleaner and make sure your postbox is clean and accessible.

Go Green:

Take some time to refresh your garden beds. Planting water-wise indigenous plants provides a striking and low maintenance facelift for your property. Starting a culinary herb garden in planters outside the kitchen door provides both flavour and certain herbs ward off flies and mosquitoes. Bring nature indoors with pot plants, but remember to check that they're safe for children and pets first. If you don't want the hassle of houseplants, cut flowers provides the room with a fresh pop of colour in an instant.

Change up Your Wall Art:

A change is as good as a holiday. Get that bold oversized piece of art you have had your eye on, create a gallery wall with all of your favourite photos, or display family memorabilia. The great thing about wall art is that it can be changed or removed with relatively little effort, so when you're feeling bored of a space, start with the art!

Declutter:

This works both inside and outside your house. Put the kid's bicycles away and roll up the hosepipe. Having ladders or gardening implements lying around the yard are a security risk and provide intruders with easy tools. Inside, invest in storage to keep the clutter out of sight, clear the counter tops and ask yourself if you really need the things that are filling up the cupboards. Charities are desperate to raise funds, so if you aren't using something, donate! Declutter in stages so it doesn't get overwhelming.

Falling in love with your home again doesn't have to mean big budgets and stressful renovations. A few afternoons spent on simple DIY projects can totally rejuvenate the look and feel of your space. What are you waiting for?
